Overlooking the Arno, in the heart of Florence, The Westin Excelsior Florence exists within a continuity of history that feels both present and gently layered beneath the surface. The building carries traces of centuries, from its origins tied to noble Florentine families to its transformation in the 19th century and its evolution into a space where heritage and contemporary refinement quietly converge.
This project captures that sense of temporal depth, where past and present do not compete, but coexist in a measured, almost effortless balance. Architectural details, materials and proportions retain the elegance of earlier eras, while light and design introduce a more modern clarity. The result is an atmosphere that feels composed rather than staged, where history is not displayed, but lived through the space itself.
Particular attention is given to the interiors as places of pause within the rhythm of the city. The lobby unfolds as both an arrival and a destination, where movement slows and the surrounding architecture invites relaxation. The beautifully curated library offers a quieter register, a space defined by warmth, texture and a sense of retreat.
Created in collaboration with Brian Sacawa, the imagery approaches the hotel not only as a location, but as a setting shaped by presence and perspective.
Developed as a visual narrative, these photos move between observation and intention, translating the identity of the hotel into a cohesive language suited for editorial and brand storytelling. Light, composition, pacing and a hint of fashion are used to reveal the space gradually, allowing each element to emerge with clarity and restraint.
What emerges is a portrayal of a place where elegance is not imposed, but accumulated, where history lingers in the details, and contemporary life settles naturally within it. A space that reflects Florence itself: layered, enduring and quietly compelling, revealing its character not all at once, but over time.
